Consider This a Wake-up Call

Posted by Marianne McAndrew, DNP, RN, CDCES

Did you know that more than 29 million Americans have diabetes, and that 8 million of those people are undiagnosed? These are the most recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC also estimates that 86 million American adults have pre-diabetes, a condition that will lead to Type 2 diabetes if lifestyle changes are not made. Nine out of 10 people with pre-diabetes do not even know that they have it!

The good news: Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed. It all starts with knowing your risk.

Today is National Diabetes Alert Day! The American Diabetes Association sounds this annual alert as a wake-up call for Americans to become aware of their risk. The ADA has a Diabetes Risk Test that is fast, free and easy. And it could save your life!

Click here to take the Diabetes Risk Test and find out your risk. Then share it with your family and friends.
